Psychic staring effect

The psychic staring effect, also known as scopaesthesia, is a phenomenon where individuals claim to detect when someone is staring at them, even if they cannot visually perceive the person doing the staring. The concept was first explored by psychologist Edward B. Titchener in 1898 after receiving reports from students in his junior classes who claimed they could “feel” when someone was looking at them.

One of the notable researchers who explored this phenomenon in more recent times is Rupert Sheldrake. Sheldrake is a British biologist and author who has shown interest in parapsychology and unconventional topics related to the mind and consciousness.

Interestingly, the feeling of being stared at has been widely reported, with a 1913 study indicating that over two-thirds of the students questioned claimed to have experienced it.
